Sweet Charity – Bath Operatic & Dramatic Society
Theatre Royal Bath, Main House – 2nd – 6th May 2017
This year’s Theatre Royal Bath Main House production performed by Bath Operatic & Dramatic Society (BODS) was the New York swinging 60’s Hit ‘Sweet Charity’. With great music, dancing, singing, lighting and staging it's energetic, funny and an amazingly ambitious performance by an amateur company. Spirolux was once again asked to design the lighting for the show, and we were happy to be involved. With scenes ranging from an afternoon in the park, a seedy jazz club, Coney Island Resort and an elevator, a range of conventional, intelligent and LED fixtures were utilised to create the scenes.
“Staging, lighting and sound are very atmospheric, with vintage lighting taking the audience right back to the seedy, jazzy nightclub era in the Big Apple”- Bath Chronical
“Sat here watching again thinking 'this lighting is bloody brilliant!' Thank you” - Tristan Carter, Director

Boardroom & Office Installation
After working on several training events with Haelo Hosts (NHS North), Spirolux was pleased to be asked to design and install AV equipment in the new boardroom and social space in the Haelo offices after their move to Media City, Salford Quays.
A simple-to-use boardroom meeting space was our clients request, but fully featured and discrete. The solution was a compact wall mounted white unit housing the DLP projector and audio amplifier, HDMi inputs at the front and rear of the room and a separate audio input for music, fed to four white JBL Control 1’s. The remote electric projection screens finished off the installation.
The social space was very different in contrast as it needed to be fun, colourful and a multi-purpose space. This part of the installation was the first stage in creating a training space within Haelo’ s new office that would be used to host training events.
The beginnings of the truss structure, that will eventually be a six leg, freestanding table, can be seen with the new LED pars and second DLP projector.
After successfully updating Alomondsbury C of E Primary School sound system, Spirolux was invited back to update the current lighting system. The existing lighting system was a traditional analogue system, using halogen lamps and gels to colour the lamps and consisted of:
12ch Analogue Lighting Desk and Dimmers
2 x Strand Prelude 16/30 Profiles
6 x Furse 500w Fresnels
12 x 300w Par 56
After a discussions with the Head, Paul Smith, a new lighting system, wholly based on LED fixtures, was created. The new systems gives the school full colour mixing using RGBW and RGB fixtures meaning the pupils and staff can change the colours in each of the areas without the need for new gels or ladders. The new systems benefits from around 80% energy saving compared to the old lighting system, not to mentions the very low maintenance with now lamp changing. Theie lighting desk can be quickly and easily programmed so that scenes can be saved. The new systems consists of:
24/48ch Programmable DMX Lighting Desk
4 x Par 64 200w RGBW Q4-18 LED Cans
6 x Powerline 16 RGBW LED Bars
4 x PaR 56 90W RGB COB LED Cans
1 x 8-way DMX Buffer
Earlier this year Keynsham Town Council approached Spirolux to ask for technical support with their 'Winter Festival', this we were happy to help out with.
Spirolux provided main stage PA system, horn speakers mounted on lamp posts down the high street, stage lighting, mobile power, full technical & event management staff to ensure the smooth and safe running of the event.
Jimmy Mac, long standing compare for the 'Winter Festival' said "The sound on the stage this year has been the best in many years & I will do my best to make sure you guys are here again next year"
Spirolux does lighting design for Bristol Musical Comedy Club's Production of "Betty Blue Eyes"
Betty Blue Eyes is set at the end of the 1940's as Britain gets back on its feet after the war. The wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten provides the background for this hilarious musical comedy based on the play A Private Function. The musical involves a pig, chiropodist a music teacher and spam.
Chris of Spirolux uses the colours of warm oranges and light purples to create a nice setting for Betty Blue Eyes which is set in the 1940's.
